Should I be excited about 2013?

Waiting for 2013Yeah, I really don’t know! The kids and I are sitting up right now, watching movies and eating snacks, waiting for the next hour to pass.

First it was ParaNorman, which was much cuter than I had expected. I’m glad we picked that and that Frankenweenie wasn’t available. I wasn’t looking forward to that one.

Then of course it was Princess and the Popstar, and I say “of course” because it was my daughter’s greatest wish to get that movie from either Santa or the Tooth Fairy for Christmas or her birthday. So she watched that once this morning and then again this evening.

Now it’s time for my movie. War Horse was available where The Odd Life of Timothy Green was not. It’s a good choice, always. Horses and Benedict Cumberbatch. Yum. Also, Tom Hiddleston, the actor who played Loki in Thor and The Avengers is in this.

Ah, it now looks like I’ve lost one child to sleep and the other to the iPad. Well, it’s a nice change. Usually the girl makes it, and the boy sleeps early.

A new year always wants to feel like a fresh new start. We set resolutions and goals, and many of us abide by them strictly for a week or so. I suppose I’m very jaded. I don’t even like to talk about my goals, because it feels so much worse when I fail at them, and everyone else succeeds. I suppose I did mention a few things a week or so ago, but nothing tonight. I expect you and I both know what we’re about to do, and that’s enough.

No promises, my friends. Not to you, not even to myself.

Happy New Year!
