You’re Fired!

So it’s currently 2:10 a.m. as I write this. I forgot when I was making my grand plans for the start of February that Tuesday was the start of LOST. I slept for 4.5 hours, and am now currently waiting for the new episode to get put online. I’ll crash in another 15 minutes until 4 a.m., giving me my usual total of about six hours of sleep, with the added benefit – hopefully – of having watched LOST before I get in to work.

As I waited I went through my feed reader and as usual, Seth Godin posted interesting, thought-provoking content. Which leads me to…

What if you got fired…tomorrow?

If I got fired tomorrow, would I wallow for a day and then jump back into a job search?

If I got fired tomorrow, would I take advantage of my free time to live life a little bit before trying to find another place to slave away at?

If I got fired tomorrow, would I follow a passion instead of trying to find a grind?

Lemonade is a 35 minute video about a bunch of people who got laid off from various ad agencies and decided to take their lives in completely different directions. They started their own businesses, dealt with family illnesses, changed their genders, and changed other people’s lives. They didn’t go back to the jobs they’d been let go from, whether they enjoyed them or were slaves to them. They took their passions and rode them like freshly castrated bulls.

It’s good, inspiring stuff. That’s what I watched while I waited for LOST.

I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I got fired tomorrow. Would I drink until I was stupid? Would I sob and cry and be depressed for weeks on end?

I would like to think instead that I could spend a day mourning (crying, drinking, ranting, venting, vegging) and then get on with it. Do I have a dream I would follow? Well, I did always want to be a published author. But my main dream is to make a million dollars and never have to worry about money. I think that counts as a dream, yes?
