Squid

I like Squidoo, and you should too. (No, seriously, I just like the rhyme.)

More seriously, I occasionally write lenses on Squidoo.com, and I’d like to share a few of the more popular ones.

The Online Avatar Makers I Love!

There are so many online avatar/character creators online, it’s hard to keep track of them all. Indeed, it’s also hard to even find them.

As a writer, I like to picture my characters on paper, and since I can’t draw for anything, I turn to these nifty tools to make my characters literally come to life.

But that’s only one use. Are you part of an RPG that you need to depict yourself for? Do you have a chat program that needs an image of you, and none of your photos will do? Do you just want to go crazy making pictures of your different personalities for whatever?

Read on for what I consider to be the best online avatar makers online, and don’t forget to rate this Lens!

What to Do When a Cat is Hit By a Car

Whether your best friend is a feline or you just love those furry balls of vibrating, portable heat, it rips your heart out when a cat is injured.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of seeing a cat being hit by a car. I was shocked, and didn’t know what to do. I kept driving, and went a half mile before I finally made up my mind to turn back and help. I am sure that if I had decided immediately to assist the poor animal, that perhaps things would have turned out better.

So…here is what I would do (next time) if I saw a cat that had been hit by a car. I hope this helps you if, heaven forbid, you ever find yourself in this situation.

How To Stop Your Young Child from Becoming a Bully

My son was not quite five years old when he went seemingly overnight from a loving, sharing, helpful child to a bullying, aggressive bomb waiting to explode. Nothing had changed at home, his world had not been overturned by the loss of a parent or pet. It seemed to be entirely spontaneous.

So it was quite a shock when his daycare called and asked me to pick him up early. That happened again a few days later, and the next week when it happened again, they asked that he not come back.

This is my story, and the actions we took to overcome the bullying. This won’t be everyone’s situation, nor will it solve everyone’s problem. But I hope it will give someone hope that there is something you can do, and provide good resources that I wasn’t aware of until I was faced with the situation myself.

Must-Have iPhone Apps for REALTORS®

You’re a real estate salesperson, and you’ve just bought your first iPhone. You don’t have your own tech department to tell you exactly what you need, so you’re on your own.

Wait, not anymore!

I’ve compiled a list of what I consider the iPhone apps you shouldn’t be without. If you feel adventurous, install them all at once. Or if you need to get used to them first, find one at a time.

I love my iPod Touch, and can’t imagine living without it. I also work with real estate agents on a daily basis, and I’ve spoken with them as well as used my own experience to select the best iPhone apps. I’ll update the list as new apps come into the store and either I discover them or they are recommended to me.

Now, on to the recommendations!

How to Keep Track of All Your Great Ideas

I am a writer of fiction. I am constantly getting ideas for stories from my life, from the lives of others, or from movies and other fiction that other people have created. It can be completely frustrating, though, when I have a great idea, and then forget it an hour later. There are so many stories that won’t get written because I didn’t have the tools I needed to keep my ideas!

This isn’t a comprehensive list – what it is are my favorite, tried and true methods for keeping track of my ideas. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Bedwetting – Creative Ideas to End Nocturnal Enuresis

I cannot think of a single situation in which wetting the bed would be welcome. I can say this with confidence because I was once a bedwetter, from as early as I can remember until I was about 12 years old.

I think the real problem is that people don’t talk about bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis. Children aren’t aware that this is practically a stage that kids go through – while it’s not normal for everyone, it does happen to a very large number of people. Instead, kids think about how their friends would make fun of them. How wetting the bed is something only babies do, or that they need to be ashamed because they are doing something wrong.

Wetting the bed is not strictly confined to children not old enough to be out of diapers. It is not something to be ashamed of, but it is something that can be worked on, managed, and grown out of. And with the support of their parents, kids don’t need to be ashamed of something that is no more unusual than entering puberty later than your best friend.
