Dinner of Champions!

I was in a pretzel mood today, so I went to Philly Soft Pretzel Factory for dinner for the family. For $12 I got 10 huge soft pretzels and 4 pretzel hot dogs, and they went over well, I think.

Normally I wouldn’t go for something so obviously nutritionally deprived – especially with all the frosting I let the kids dip their hot dogs in – but today just sort of felt right. I’ve been sick for a few days, and I should have stayed home more than just the one day I managed to squeeze in. I had a hard day yesterday, and today was pretty much a wash, work-wise. And I managed to send off my taxes to be organized into some variance of either a credit or an amount owed.

So we celebrated with pretzels.

Note to Self

Just a memo to me: this is not something I want to give up on. Daily effort is necessary and essential. Stop thinking negative thoughts and ACT. No apologies, ever.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog!

Really, Really Bad Day

Today was horrible. I was so frustrated I wanted to scream and cry. Three other people had very similar days. It sucked.

Tomorrow will be better, simply because medicine is making my back hurt less, and now that I realize that I can take that medicine until I get to the doctor.

It is going to be hell getting out of this chair, though.

Wish me luck!

Oh, the Pain!

So I had just woken up and was walking my kids out to the car so they could go to Sunday school, and I slipped on some ice. My already stiff back seized up some more, and now I’m in pain. Big pain.

I laid down for a bit after arriving back home, but after a couple of rounds of ibuprofen and a couple rounds of laying down, it still hurts. I’m not sure about whether I’ll make it in to work, nor whether I’ll be able to sleep tonight. *urk*

I’m just hoping that what the pharmacist told my husband doesn’t pan out to be true – that it will hurt more tomorrow than it does today.

Glorious Snow!

It snowed a bit yesterday. Not too badly, just maybe a foot or so. I don’t actually know how much, just that it was light enough for my son to shovel and tromp through. He actually spent about 90 minutes outside playing. Had it not gotten dark, we probably wouldn’t have been able to drag him in.

My daughter, on the other hand, is definitely not a snow freak. She did go out a bit this morning to play and sweep/shovel, but she was over it quite a bit quicker than her brother. She came inside, got her hot chocolate/cocoa, and resumed her games. She doesn’t like to sled much, either, so I must say it doesn’t surprise me.

My husband was my hero, going out to brave the elements twice while the most I did was take photos of the tree across the street from my front porch. I wasn’t interested in taking a drive around the block to see how bad the roads were, or to see if it was even possible to dig out the cars. He did all that for me, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I’m also pretty sure that if I came back to work today with stories of how I’d driven around a bit, I would have been faced with the sort-of-kidding-but-mostly-serious question of, “Why didn’t you go to the office, then?”

Seriously.

Well, I hope everyone who didn’t have a snow day isn’t suffering from too much snow envy. You can’t have any of mine. I’m enjoying it too much from the warmth of my living room.

Violet Parker

I just realized on my way to work that I hadn’t done a blog post for today. So sorry. My head was somewhere else last night, doing work on a side project that has the potential to be really cool. Unfortunately, I can only do so much at a time, and apparently doing that was the only thing I could do at that point.

Bleh.

I want to take a moment now to whip up something deep and emotionally moving, but I don’t dare. There’s always something on my desk that needs to be done RIGHTNOW!, and today is no exception. So as I run off to give my attention to the urgentness that is before me, wish me luck.

iPod Love

I love my iPod Touch. (iTouch?) It went from a “must have” toy to a vital part of my life fairly quickly, especially after moving into our new house. What do I love the best and why? Well allow me to tell you.

Just Light: This flashlight application successfully turns my little iTouch into a bright white screen that gives me enough visibility to get upstairs to bed without waking the entire house. This is especially important for my sleepwalking son and husband who doesn’t sleep well.

Clock: Believe it or not, this is my most-used program. I use it for timing dinner in the oven, to wake in the morning, to get me up from an evening nap, and to time how long I can…okay, I don’t actually use the stopwatch feature. I was reaching. Sorry.

Lose It: I admit that I don’t use this program as much as I should, but with a way to track my weight, calories, and set goals and stuff that plays well with their website, there are absolutely no excuses for me not to.

8: This just lets me tap a glass of water on my screen every time I actually drink one. It’s only purpose is to keep track of my water consumption, and then to forget about it at midnight. Simple, yet effective.

Streaks: I like keeping track of how many days in a row I accomplish certain things. Streaks lets me set up as many things to keep track of as I want, and even gives me a variety of ways to do it (once a week, twice a week, etc).

Gold Rush: A game where you have to go dig up gold. This was one I plowed through to win, and keep coming back to when I’m bored. Yes!

ShopShop: A grocery list keeper, good for keeping you on track at the grocery store.

IMDb: Well come on – need I say any more? I even found a great photo of Amy Adams for my background.

Myst: Again – self explainatory for anyone who loved this game on the PC. I can’t wait for Riven.

Tap Defense: A desktop defender type of game, with very cool combinations of game play so you can win even when the odds are otherwise stacked against you.

Katamari: Using the accelerometer, you roll your guy around and pick up stuff. FUN!

TapFarm: Amazingly similar to FarmVille, really, but on the iPod and much, much funner. (It’s a word [in my world], get over it.)

And you get to buy songs right from the iTouch as long as you have an I-net connection, and you can read books on it, and you can play Soduku, and everything! Come on, it’s about as awesome as you can get.

Popcorn!

I thought I’d feature a song here this morning (a bit later than usual – sorry about that). The song is…

POPCORN!

It’s so incredibly addictive. Definitely ear worm material. There’s a really cool techno version on YouTube that may be by Madagascar 5, I’m not sure. But the original version was by Gershon Kingsley, and is quite cool all on its own.

The Popcorn Song has its very own webpage at Popcorn-Song.com, and of course a Wikipedia page.

And really, what’s the point of all this? Just me, sharing a little music for some lightheartedness. Let me create your ear worm for today, why don’t you? :)

Did you know…

…that Mint.com will let you know when your 0% interest credit cards switch from that super low rate to the regular rate? Awesome!

I’ve never been completely sold on the service, never was able to completely dedicate myself to using it, but this might just be my turning point.

Of course we’re all organized enough to keep track of our own information, our own data…our own credit card rates. But when there is a service who will help you watch out for your own interests?

Completely awesome!

Catching up on LOST and exercise

Written @ 10:30 p.m. last night.

My single overriding desire for tonight and tomorrow morning was to finish watching season 4 of LOST and to wake up early to do Yoga. So I’ve just finished LOST, and now I must go to bed early. Tomorrow is an early day full of report recording and more cleaning. I’ll let you know how it went.
